National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI), Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT), National Remote Sensing Agency (NRSA) and Environment Protection Training & Research Institute (EPTRI) have formed the NINE Plus consortium to provide expert services, unique knowledge base and world class scientific guidance through sponsored programs on environmental implications of new developments to government, industry, public and national bodies to facilitate them to undertake forward planning, site selection, project development and evolving of a new road map for sustainable future growth. The focus sectors proposed are industrial sites, coal, oil and gas fields, transportation, pipelines, water body projects, etc. The scope of expert services is extendable to include socio-economic implications of proposed new developments to reduce the uncertainity surrounding the prediction of environmental impacts in isolation.
Under the NINE Plus consortium, the Carrying Capacity project for Visakhapatnam is currently being done (funded by Industries and Commerce Department). Other projects under NINE Plus include Population growth impact and ecological studies of Lakes and catchment areas around Hyderabad , Possibility of Establishing Non-Polluting Industries Within 10 km Radius Downstream of Himayathsagar and Osmansagar Lakes, and study for Indian Immunologicals company.
